Colorado 2017- Day 4

Saturday was HikeMS day!  After a week of beautiful weather, we woke up to cold and rainy skies.  Luckily, Emily and I had gone the night before and bought rain jackets for everyone.  They came in very handy on the hike.

Dr. Benke and several of his family members came to the hike this year.  I hate that they had such bad weather for their first hike.
We started with 5 of the 6 kids but the cold rain was pretty miserable and the only kids who ended up hiking were Addison and Parker.  The others bailed on us within the first few minutes!

The rest of the kids ended up staying in the team tent with Granna and Granstan.
The girls rode the gondola up to the top and got some pictures with Cory before he started his hike.
Ryan warming up with some hot chocolate!
The four lone finishers! I was proud of Parker and Addison for toughing it out.  It really was a miserable hike!
Playing in the rain was much more fun than hiking!
It didn't take long for the kids to fall asleep on the way home!
Because of the slick conditions, Cory wasn't able to finish the entire two mile hike but he did as much as he could.  I was proud of him for trying, especially in those conditions.
By late afternoon, the rain had stopped and it ended up being a nice day.  Since we didn't get our annual group picture at the top of the mountain, we went to downtown Breckenridge and took some pictures.
After dinner, we took the kids to the park and had our first annual Brown/Rowland softball game.
It was a long but fun day and we were all exhausted by bedtime (as you can tell by Eden's face!).  I wish the weather had been better at the hike but it was great to participate in another HikeMS and hike in honor of Cory.  Hopefully the weather will be better next summer!
