The second day we were in Guatemala was my 40th birthday! Emily and I have never been apart on our birthday so I was so glad she was there to celebrate with me. Our mission team was so sweet and surprised us at breakfast with a few gifts and a piece of pie they had secretly bought in Antigua the day before. My mom and Cory had even sent gifts with Stephanie so it was nice to feel some love from home that day too!
Robert tried a green mango at breakfast that morning but I never could get Parker to try it!After breakfast, we loaded up all the supplies we were going to need in Chiquimula during the week and headed to church. There was so much stuff to take... the inside of the bus was completely packed and we also loaded wheelbarrows and other larger things on the top of the van.
Going to church in Guatemala was an amazing experience. Worshipping in Spanish is something I'll always remember. What a special way to start my birthday!
For lunch, our Potter's House leaders took us to the most popular Guatemalan fast food restaurant- Pollo Campero where we ate really good fried chicken.
After lunch, we got back on the bus and started our 3 hour journey to Chiquimula. Parker spent a lot of his time reading on the bus. That kid can read anywhere!
It was a long drive, but when we finally arrived at our hotel, I was shocked at how nice everything was. Even all of the team members who had been to Guatemala on previous trips commented on how nice the accommodations were.
This was the beautiful view just outside our room. Parker was thrilled that we were so close to the pool!
Every night before bed, we would gather as a team to worship, debrief, and share our favorite parts of the day.
It was a long day of traveling but I couldn't have asked for a better birthday! Not many people can say they turned 40 in another country!
