Guatemala- Day 4

Tuesday was our first day to get to help with the building project in Chiquimula.  The church had asked for a community center and bathrooms and our mission team was put in charge of finishing the bathrooms while we were there.  The mission team that came the week after us was bigger so they were given the community center to complete.  The Potter's House had hired workers from the city to come and complete the building of the bathrooms before we arrived.  Our jobs were to scrape the cinder blocks and make them smooth, plaster the walls, mix and pour the concrete floors, and paint all the walls.

We spent most of the morning scraping walls.  We scraped, and scraped, and then scraped some more.  It seemed like we were never going to finish!  The kids did a great job helping us and never complained.  They were such hard workers!
After most of the scraping had been finished, we started mixing the plaster for the walls. Addison and Emily did quite a bit of plastering that morning.
I don't think any of us were prepared for how hot it was going to be in Chiquimula.  I don't think I've ever sweat so much.  We were all so thankful when lunchtime came just to get an hour break from the heat.
Every day for lunch and dinner, we would go to the Potter's House headquarters at the home of the Chiquimula team leaders Josue and Annabella.  They were such wonderful hosts and we were so thankful for them opening up their home to us every day.

The kids had a great time being silly with Mr. John.
After lunch, we dropped the men back off at the work site and headed to our second day of VBS.  The theme of the day was superheroes so we all wore our superhero shirts.
The kids were all waiting for us and were very excited to see us again.
Playing Duck, Duck, Goose (Pato, Pato, Ganso)
At the end of every VBS, we would hand out lunches that we had packed to every child who attended.  The lunch was a refried black bean sandwich, chips, cookies, and a juice box.  The kids could not wait to get their lunch and would usually start eating right away.  They were so grateful for every little thing we gave them.
Melisa captured my heart that day! I wish I could have brought her home with me!
Our showers had never felt so good after a long, hard days work.  Dinner and worship were a great way to end another incredible day in Chiquimula!
