Every year, my entire family goes together and chooses a Salvation Army angel to buy gifts for at Christmas. This year, Aunt MerMer decided that Parker and Addison were old enough to understand giving to someone less fortunate and took them shopping with her. Before they went shopping, she had a lot of fun things planned to make the weekend memorable for them. She picked Parker up from preschool at noon on Friday and he didn't come home until noon on Saturday. I missed him terribly but know he had a great time and I appreciate Meredith taking time out of her weekend to make some wonderful memories with him as well as teaching him some great lessons about giving to others. They started the weekend with a trip to Wal-Mart to pick out our angel and decided on a 6 year old boy who wanted a bike for Christmas. Then it was off to the park to enjoy the beautiful December weather.
After dinner, they headed off to Jumpin' Apes to burn off some more energy. Then they went back to the park to look at all of the Christmas lights. I know they must have been exhausted by the time bedtime rolled around!
After a good night's sleep and a yummy breakfast of pancakes and donuts, they headed back to Wal-Mart to shop. In addition to the bike that our angel wanted, they were able to get him several outfits, pajamas, shoes, underwear, socks, and several other small toys. Meredith said that Parker and Addison completely understood that they were buying the toys for someone else and never showed any desire to keep the toys for themselves which made me so proud.
I am so glad we were able to help make Christmas special for a little boy who might not have had one otherwise. I hope that next year Eden will be able to join Parker and Addison and start learning about the importance of giving to others.
