The kids (especially Lily) have been begging us for months to get a dog. Lily asked for one for Christmas and even told me one day that if she couldn't have a puppy for Christmas, then she didn't want anything at all!
I knew I didn't want a puppy and know so many people that have had great luck with rescue dogs. I looked and looked before Christmas but just couldn't find a dog that seemed like a perfect fit for our family so we wrapped up a dog toy and told the kids we would start looking after Christmas.
Last week, I started searching again and finally found a dog that looked perfect for us. She was almost two years old, didn't shed and, according to the foster parents, had a very sweet temperament. After a little convincing, Cory finally gave in and agreed to let us adopt her!
Last week, we drove to Abilene to meet Millie. The kids were beyond excited to finally be getting a dog!She was perfect on the long drive home! After talking, we decided that having a Lily and a Millie in the house might be confusing so we brainstormed and came up with her new name- Maggie.
We learned quickly after getting home that Maggie is an escaper and a runner so we are working on getting the fence secured so she can't get out of the backyard anymore.
Lily is completely in love with her!
It has definitely been an adjustment but Maggie is so sweet and I love having a dog again. I'm excited to watch the kids as they become more and more attached to her over the next few months!
